POSITION SUMMARY:

The Staff Accountant supports both project and corporate accounting operations and plays a key role in maintaining accurate and timely financial records. This person will provide direction for various aspects of accounting operations including cash entries, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. They will be responsible for maintaining prepaids and accruals, posting journal entries, assisting with month end close and reviewing financial statements. The Staff Accountant will collaborate with Accounting Managers, Directors, VP, the broader accounting team, and Project Managers to ensure consistency and compliance and will contribute to ongoing process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise between Project Managers and Accounting for proper project cost tracking, billing, and reporting.
  • Process job cost adjustments and maintain job cost reports for financial statements.
  • Schedule and participate in monthly projection meetings; maintain notes and follow up on accounting action items.
  • Review and analyze monthly revenue, gross profit margins, and variances, and summarize key findings for leadership.
  • Provide general ledger direction to accounts receivable and accounts payable teams as needed. 
  • Record inventory transfers requested by Purchasing and Materials Management.
  • Prepare monthly entries for prepaids, accruals, and other recurring journal entries.
  • Assist with intercompany reconciliations and month-end close activities.
  • Contribute to preparing monthly financial statements when needed.
  • Partner with the internal and external teams to prepare for annual audit.
  • Develop cross-functional knowledge of purchasing, time entry, A/R, A/P, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain and update internal control documentation.
  • Identify and support process or system improvements.
  • Limited travel (<10%) to other company locations may be required for accounting support.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Document procedures, challenges, solutions, and process updates.
  • Support training and cross-training of accounting staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • 2-3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience required.
  • Job cost accounting or project accounting a plus.
  • Understanding financial statements.
  • Knowledge of payroll processes and labor hours, including general ledger impact.
  • Familiarity with billing, cash receipts, and their effect on financial statements.
  • Professional, reliable, and trustworthy; ability to handle confidential information required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in time management and multitasking.
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel; experience with Viewpoint Vista or Oracle Fusion is a plus.
