POSITION SUMMARY:

The Controller, Renewables plays a key role in supporting the financial, accounting, and operational integrity of Roeslein's renewable energy activities, including renewable natural gas (RNG), renewables project entities, energy group activities, grants, assets, and related business unit reporting. This role is responsible for leading accurate monthly close, financial reporting, reconciliations, project and asset accounting, and internal control support for assigned renewables entities and business units.

The position bridges renewables operations, project accounting, corporate accounting, treasury, tax, and external reporting needs. The ideal candidate will combine strong accounting discipline with a practical, hands-on operating style and the ability to help build repeatable processes in a changing finance and accounting environment.

Responsibilities

Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Own monthly close activities for assigned renewables entities and business units, including timely journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records for renewables operations, project entities, RNG-related activities, intercompany transactions, and related business unit reporting.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, management reporting packages, and supporting schedules for assigned entities and business units.
  • Ensure accounting treatment is consistent with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and the company's evolving enterprise accounting standards.
  • Partner with corporate accounting, financial reporting, and external auditors to support quarterly and annual audit requests, technical accounting support, and documentation needs.
  • Collect and provide information for consolidated financial reporting, tax preparation, statutory reporting, treasury support, and other corporate finance requirements.
  • Perform ad hoc accounting analysis, reporting, and special projects as required.

Renewables Business Unit and Project Support

  • Lead accounting and reporting support for renewable energy business units and related project entities, including BCM, RAE, RNG equity activities, and other renewables operations as assigned.
  • Support project-level accounting, cost tracking, revenue recognition support, cost-to-complete analysis, and margin analysis in partnership with operations and FP&A.
  • Prepare and review business unit close schedules, project accruals, capitalized cost support, and related balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support accounting for grants, renewable energy assets, development costs, fixed assets, prepaids, and related funding or incentive programs.
  • Partner with operations leaders to explain monthly results, key drivers, margin trends, forecast changes, and accounting impacts.

BCM / RNG / Environmental Credit Accounting

  • Support accounting for RNG trading, marketing, offtake, environmental credit, and related commercial activities as applicable, including maintaining an attribute position tracker.
  • Reconcile invoices, settlements, positions, and counterparty activity from pipelines, customers, registries, and project entities.
  • Validate P&L activity and identify discrepancies between accounting records, project information, and operational or trading data.
  • Support audit and compliance reviews related to RIN, LCFS, ISCC, grant, incentive, or other environmental credit programs, as applicable.
  • Collaborate with finance leadership and risk management resources to support counterparty exposure, settlement accuracy, and policy compliance.

Controls, Compliance, and Process Improvement

  • Strengthen close discipline, reconciliation quality, documentation standards, and recurring accounting controls for assigned entities and processes.
  • Identify process gaps, control weaknesses, recurring close issues, and reporting inefficiencies; recommend and help implement practical improvements.
  • Support the design and implementation of financial processes that connect renewables operations, project finance, accounting, FP&A, treasury, and corporate reporting.
  • Support ERP, reporting, and workflow improvements, including future Oracle implementation activities and opportunities to automate reconciliations, invoicing, and reporting.
  • Develop repeatable schedules, checklists, and documentation to reduce key-person dependency and improve continuity.

Leadership and Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary accounting partner for assigned renewables leaders and cross-functional teams.
  • Work closely with the Enterprise Controller, CFO, Director of Financial Reporting, FP&A, treasury, tax, compliance and external accounting firms.
  • Provide clear issue escalation, timely follow-up, and practical recommendations to resolve accounting and reporting matters.
  • Help build a culture of accountability, accuracy, timely close, and continuous improvement within the finance and accounting organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience required.
  • Experience in renewable energy/bioenergy/agri-processing, or environmental commodities strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, monthly close, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaids, intercompany activity, and financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of mark-to-market, derivatives and hedge accounting preferred.
  • Experience with percentage-of-completion accounting, ASC 606, cost-to-complete analysis, or project-based revenue recognition preferred.
  • Experience with grants, equity method investments, RNG, environmental credits, or complex entity structures a plus.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Oracle, NetSuite, SAP, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills required; Power BI, Tableau, or similar reporting tools preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner with operations, accounting, FP&A, treasury, tax, external auditors, and senior finance leadership.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced, changing environment while balancing corporate, project, and operational priorities.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and able to identify root causes, drive resolution, and improve recurring processes.
  • Must comply with Roeslein's core values for the business's safe and efficient operation and maintain sound relationships among and with employees.
